Hon. John Carmody, who has been a member of the bar of North Dakota, nearly a quarter of a century, is a native of Wisconsin. He was born on a farm in the town of Granville, in Milwaukee county, January 6, 1854, and is a son of John and Mary (Purcell) Carmody. He acquired his schooling in the common schools of his native place and of Waseca county, Minnesota, whither his parents moved when he was fourteen years old, and also attended the high schools of Waseca and Faribault.
