Biography of E. Y. Sarles of Hillsboro ND

E. Y. Sarles, the ninth governor of North Dakota, was born in Wonewoc, Wisconsin, on January 15, 1859. He received his education in Wisconsin and worked in the banking and lumber business with his brother. Sarles organized several banks and currently serves as vice president and director of the First National Bank of Northwood, North Dakota. He has a prominent role in various organizations and is a Mason, an Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler, and a Knight of Pythias. His family includes his wife Anna York Sarles and their children Earle R., Duane York, Doris York Sarles, and Eleanor.

Arthur Bernette Landt, a native of Wisconsin, has been serving as the cashier of First National Bank in Northwood, North Dakota since October 1901. He entered the banking business in 1890 and moved to North Dakota in 1891. Married to Gertrude Gunning, they have two daughters.

Hon. John Carmody, who has been a member of the bar of North Dakota, nearly a quarter of a century, is a native of Wisconsin. He was born on a farm in the town of Granville, in Milwaukee county, January 6, 1854, and is a son of John and Mary (Purcell) Carmody. He acquired his schooling in the common schools of his native place and of Waseca county, Minnesota, whither his parents moved when he was fourteen years old, and also attended the high schools of Waseca and Faribault. Biography of Anton O. Anderson of Grand Forks, North Dakota

Anton O. Anderson, manager of the Advance Thrasher Company, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, was born at Lake Crystal, Minnesota, on April 7, 1872. His parents were Ole W. and Elsie (Farmer) Anderson, both natives of Norway. Father came to the United States in 1853, and mother in 1871. Anton O. received a good common school education at Hillsboro, North Dakota. He then spent two years at Willmar Seminary, Willmar, Minnesota, and one year at the Lutheran College, at Decorah, Iowa.
