Kenneth Campbell Hunter, a contractor and builder in Grand Forks, North Dakota, was born January 28, 1858, in Huron County, Ontario, Canada. Son of Kenneth Hunter and Ann Campbell Hunter, he moved to North Dakota in 1881 and pursued a career in contracting and building. Between 1884 and 1889, he lived in Crookston, Minnesota, before returning to Grand Forks. Hunter served as an alderman and held shares in the Grand Forks Building and Developing Company. He married Margaret E. Willow on June 5, 1884, and they had several children. He was an active member of several fraternal organizations and the First Presbyterian Church.

His father, Kenneth Hunter, was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1825 and, as of 1908, was still alive. Ann Campbell Hunter, our subject’s mother, was of Scottish descent, born in 1827, and passed away on January 31, 1902.
Due to the sparsely settled nature of the county and the considerable distance to school, Kenneth’s educational opportunities were limited. However, he apprenticed and learned the carpenter trade. In the fall of 1881, he relocated to North Dakota and began working as a contractor and builder, a profession he has pursued ever since. Between 1884 and 1889, he resided in Crookston, Minnesota, before returning to Grand Forks. Kenneth has served as an alderman for the Fifth Ward and holds shares in the Grand Forks Building and Developing Company, which owns the Empire Building, one of the city’s finest structures. He is a member of the Grand Forks Commercial Club, Grand Forks Builders’ Exchange, Banner Lodge No. 4 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), Grand Forks Lodge No. 9 of the Ancient Order of United Workmen (A.O.U.W.), and the Modern Woodmen of America (M.W.A.). He also belongs to the First Presbyterian Church.
Kenneth Hunter married Margaret E. Willow from Thessalon, Ontario, Canada, on June 5, 1884, in Crookston, Minnesota. They have several children, including Herschel A., Eldred T., Sylvan Ann, and Kenneth R., while Alvin has unfortunately passed away.
